Manila, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo has a message for President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday, reminding him of the impact of his jokes about m0lesting his family’s housemaid.
In her weekly radio show, “BISErbisyong Leni,” she said it was ‘scary’ that Duterte failed to consider his countrymen who work as domestic helper in other countries.
“Hindi naman masama magbiro pero may mga biro na hindi talaga dapat ginagawa…Nakakatakot na hindi naisip na napakarami nating mga kababayan ang trabaho kasambahay sa ibang lugar (It’s not bad to make a joke, but there is a joke that he should not be doing…It’s scary that he didn’t think of our countrymen who work as domestic helpers abroad,” she said.
“Napakarami nang naitala na pang-aabuso sa kanila. Marami tayong mga kababayan na-rape, marami tayong kababayan na sexually abused (Several abuses against them have been recorded. Many of our people were raped and sexually abuse),” Robredo said, noting the challenges that domestic helpers had to face abroad
With this, Robredo called out the president for jokes that may endanger the lives of OFWs.
“Parang ginagawa kasing normal. Kapag ginamit mo ito isang biro o pahayag parang nanornormalize ‘yung isang bagay na napakasama..Sana hindi ito na mangyari muli (It is becoming normal. Once you use this as a joke or statement, it’s like very bad things are being normalized. I hope it won’t happen again),” the vice president added
