Dyeing your hair is a quick and fun way to change your overall look. Nowadays, many women opt to dye their hair to enhance their look and style. While coloring the crowning glory is fun and almost painless, it has disadvantages that we must be mindful of.
This was the unfortunate fate of Chen, a woman from Harbin, China who loves dyeing her from time to time. She started dyeing her locks when grey hair began growing 10 years ago. Ever since she had her hair colored for the first time, her hair would grow faster, making her grey hairs noticeable once again. Therefore, she booked for monthly appointments for hair dyeing in order to conceal the grey strands.
One day, her husband noticed that her skin and the whites of her eyes turned yellow. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.
What’s more bizarre is that the doctors found out that the illness was not caused by any drugs, but it was her constant hair dyeing that resulted to it. According to The Coverage, the doctors found out that the “chemicals in most hair dyes are absorbed by the skin and metabolized by the liver.”
As per the same source, even though her liver is severely damaged, Chen has slowly recuperated from her mishap after 20 days of treatment.
